Backslider

Are you a backslider? Did you once follow after Jesus, and pray, and study the Bible, and fellowship with the brethren, but now find yourself leaving these things and going back to your old "sinful" ways? If you answered any of these questions with a "yes", you may be a backslider.

Prov 14:14

14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. (KJV)

Here in Proverbs we see that a backslider is filled with his own ways, and not the ways of the Lord. What is it that you have seen in this world that is worth turning your back on God for. Don't you know that this world is passing away?

1 Jn 2:15-17

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (KJV)

If you have the love of the world in you, instead of the love of God, you are in trouble. You need to stop living in the flesh, to the desires of your flesh. Carnal Christians will not go to heaven.

Rom 8:5-8

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (KJV)

Do you still think that it is worth being apart from God and being carnally minded? Do you realize that you are an enemy to God and can't please Him in your current state? If you continue on your current course you will not inherit the kingdom of God. Your destination is an everlasting hell of torment.

Gal 5:19-21

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (KJV)

You may say, "I'm innocent of such things." But are you really? Are you ready to stand before a holy and righteous God? The excuses you use today won't work on judgment day.

Heb 9:27

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (KJV)

2 Cor 5:10

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. (KJV)

Ecc 12:13-14

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (KJV)

Do you fear God? Do you keep His commandments? It's time to stop running from God and turn to Him. You once ran well, what is it that hindered you? Is it worth it? Is that thing worth seperation for God and an eternity in hell? Do deceive yourself. God doesn't like those that look back or draw away.

Heb 10:38-39

38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. (KJV)

Lk 9:62
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. (KJV)

Just think, if the person who looks back isn't fit for the kingdom of God, what do you think can be said of one that takes their hand off the plow and wanders around or leaves the field? Not a pretty picture is it? Have you looked back, or taken your hand off of the plow? I exhort you to examine yourself, whether you are in the faith. Are you living after the Spirit or after the flesh? Are you living for yourself or for God?

2 Cor 13:5

5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (KJV)

Jos 24:15

15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (KJV)

This is of utmost importance! If you were to die today, would you be ready to meet your maker? Will you be naked and ashamed on judgment day without hope of heaven and eternal life? If your answer is yes, if you know that you are not right with God, if you are living in sin, if you left God and went back to your old ways, now is time, today is the day of salvation. God will extend His mercy toward you if you will return to Him.

Is 55:6-7

6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (KJV)

You need to call on the Lord and confess your sins, and bring forth fruit worth of repentance.

Rom 10:9

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (KJV)

Mt 3:8

8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: (KJV)

Turn to the Lord with all your heart. Walk down the straight and narrow which leadeth to life for the broad way leads to destruction.

Gal 6:7-8

7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (KJV)

Again I exhort you to choose you this day whom you shall serve.
